Mitered squares finished!

I finished my mitered square blanket-thing week before last.  It's pretty small: 23 by 29 inches or so.  I would have liked to make the border wider, but there was way less black yarn left over than I thought.  Mostly I'm just glad to have another finish.  I have one more finish and a new start to share soon.

CMS/Colloquium crochet!

I finally finished weaving in the many many ends on the back of my mitered square blanket-thing last week, so yesterday I took in to work on the edging during my Thursday afternoon seminars.  I'm getting two rounds of single crochet around the edge.  I was working on it just now, and I ran out of black yarn with about a foot to go on the second round.  I don't want to rip out the whole second round, so I'm using some of the leftover tofutsies yarn from the squares to finish it out.  I think I'm going to finish this tonight (and I finished another long-term UFO this week)!

Crochet edged receiving blankets

One of the post-docs in my department is due to have a baby boy next week, and last week we had a little baby shower for her.  I made two crochet-edged baby blankets.  I had such a great time choosing the fabrics to make these!  I based them on the tutorial from Sew Chic, but I wanted to make them double-sided, so I used one yard each of flannel and quilting cotton, and serged the edges with right sides together.  Then I turned them right side out and pressed the edges, and then crocheted the edging.  Unfortunately I didn't start them until the night before the shower, and so I didn't finish them in time!  I wrapped them up anyway, and told her that she had to give them back after opening them so I could finish.  I finished them last weekend and gave them to her last Monday.  Here's a picture of the finished product:
The blankets finished at just under 34" square, and they are machine wash- and dry-able.

Baby blanket finished!

Today I am sitting at home hoping that our air conditioner will be fixed. Even for me, 90 degrees and humid inside is a bit much. Robert was fairly miserable yesterday afternoon and last night. Luckily, I don't have class until four today, so it wasn't much trouble to be at home and wait for maintenance people. The upside of being stuck at home is that I was able to finish this cute little receiving blanket for my dad's office manager. She and her husband are expecting a baby girl the first week of September.

I followed this tutorial from Sewchic. I saw this adorable flannel on sale at JoAnn a few months ago, so I bought the supplies for the blanket (it only takes a yard of fabric) and waited until I encountered a suitable recipient. When I got home from my travels, I started the blanket. It was quite easy and fast. I am thinking of making a few more to donate to my church's fall auction fundraiser, but first I have several other projects which need finishing (more posts about those objects coming up soon!)

Here is a close-up of the picot loops, or "pudbumps," as Robert has dubbed them:
